Register to Comment: Urge DEP to Close Oil and Gas Industry Loopholes and Tackle the Climate Crisis

From the Clean Air Council (http://www.cleanair.org/):

The Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) just announced a 66-day public comment period, including three virtual public hearings, for a proposed rule to reduce emissions of methane and other harmful air pollution, such as smog-forming volatile organic compounds (VOCs), from existing oil and gas operations.

The virtual hearings will be on June 23 (6 p.m.), June 24 (2 p.m.), and June 25 (6 p.m.).

This is an important opportunity for Pennsylvania residents to voice their opinions on how the rule can best be strengthened to address the climate crisis and public health impacts of the natural gas industry. Methane and VOCs leak at every stage of the natural gas supply chain, from production and processing to transportation and storage.

The draft existing source oil and gas methane rule is critical for meeting Gov. Wolf’s climate goals. Unfortunately, the draft rule includes a loophole for low-producing wells that are responsible for about half of all emissions that contribute to Pennsylvania’s million ton methane problem.

Each speaker will have 5 minutes to give their remarks. Sign up now before the spaces are filled.
