Tell Your Representative: Reject Tax Plan that Hurts the Poor While Cutting Taxes for the Wealthy

From Oxfam America (http://www.oxfamamerica.org):

Congressional leaders just released a new plan to give enormous tax cuts to big companies and the wealthiest Americans. These cuts will be paid for by gutting critical services to poor families in the US and around the world.

Oxfam is particularly concerned about tax dodging by big companies – which costs the US and poor countries more than $100 billion every year. Instead of closing these tax loopholes that hurt the poor, President Trump and Congressional leaders are proposing new, enormous tax cuts to the wealthiest Americans and corporations.

Now is a critical time to weigh in with members of Congress on these issues. The tax cut plan will make our tax system less fair, and will not meaningfully improve job creation or the economy as a whole. It will also significantly increase pressure to further cut international anti-poverty assistance and other critical lifesaving funding- making it harder for poor countries to raise their own revenues to fight poverty.

Join us in telling your representatives in Congress that you will not stand for any tax plan that cuts programs for the poor while providing tax cuts to wealthy corporations and individuals: Go to https://secure3.oxfamamerica.org/page/s/stop-rigged-reform to email your representatives in Congress.

Or better yet, give them a call: you can reach all of your elected representatives directly by calling the Congressional Switchboard 202-224-3121 and entering your zip code. (Alternatively, you can find your Representative’s contact information at http://www.house.gov and call directly.) Here’s sample language for your call:

As your constituent and a supporter of Oxfam, I am writing to urge you to not cut lifesaving foreign aid and to vote NO to the dangerous tax cut bill. Tax dodging by big companies costs the American people and poor countries each more than $100 billion per year. As your constituent, I’m calling on you to vote against this rigged tax reform plan and start over with measures that protect working people and those living in poverty here in the US and around the world.

Thank you, as always, for all you do.
