Tell Our Senators to Extend Expanded EITC and Child Tax Credit

From the Coalition on Human Needs (http://www.chn.org):

Did you know that the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and the Child Tax Credit (CTC) lifted 9 million people out of poverty last year, including 5 million children.1

Thanks to Congress expanding both tax credits for working people and families, millions more people were eligible to receive this critical boost in the midst of the pandemic―mostly people with low- or no-incomes.

Write to our senators at https://actionnetwork.org/letters/tell-congress-extend-the-expanded-eitc-and-ctc-to-support-working-people-and-families and tell them to extend the expanded EITC and CTC to support working people and families, which also gives local economies a boost.

Right now, the IRS estimates that 4 out of 5 people who are eligible for the EITC are claiming this tax credit. But that means that millions more people are eligible to receive payments of up to $1,502 for a worker with no qualifying children and up to $6,728 to a family with 3 or more qualifying children.2

If you’re a household earning $57,414 or less and aren’t sure if you qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit, visit www.IRS.gov/eitc to learn more. Important news: for the first time, people ages 19-24 and age 65 and over without dependent children are eligible for the EITC.

Also, families must remember to file a tax return this year in order to receive the second half of the 2021 Child Tax Credit. This is particularly important for families with low- or no-incomes who do not traditionally file a tax return. The fight is still on to convince the Senate to approve an extension of the expanded CTC for 2022; please click here to join in. But right now, families need to file a tax return this season to claim all the money they’re currently owed.

Thank you for fighting for a future that includes all of us.
