Sign Petition in Support of Fair Legislative Districts/Independent Redistricting Commission

From Fair Districts PA (http://www.fairdistrictspa.com):Gerrymander

No–it’s not a Rorschach Test–this is an actual gerrymandered district.

When we vote, we want our elections to be fair. We want our votes to count and we want our voices to be heard.

Partisan redistricting allows politicians to choose voters instead of allowing voters to choose politicians. The process happens behind closed doors, with no transparency and no accountability to voters.

Fortunately, a bipartisan group of legislators from both the Pennsylvania Senate and House wants to change that and put real power back into the hands of voters.

Companion bills SB 484 and HB 1835 would create an impartial, independent citizens redistricting commission with rules ensuring fairness and transparency.

Join Fair Districts PA in asking our legislators to pass these constitutional amendments to restore accountable government that is of, by and for the people. Sign the petition in support at http://org2.salsalabs.com/o/5415/p/dia/action3/common/public/index?action_KEY=22531.

Government of, by & for the people is the scene we should be living with; government that is truly representative! Please pass the Constitutional Amendments that will cause this to happen! Thank you!

The present redistricting methods are clearly an attempt to manipulate the voting process; a basic right of all people wherever they live is their right to make choices that matter to them. An independent commission for redistricting is the best way to achieve this result. Charlotte Whiting

I agree with this. It would help though if the Democratic leadership would put at least a little money in districts where someone is willing to run in a heavily Republican district so that there is at a semblance of Democratic Party. These candidates should not be hung out to dry, but at be given some money for signage and posters. Mr. Jim Massey is running in the heavily Republican 87th District for the House seat currently held by Mr. Rothman. The district is gradually becoming more diverse and I believe gradual change is coming. This is the time to help out candidates such as Mr. Massey and to not ignore them because of the focus on more likely wins.

Please establish an independent, impartial redistributing commission for the commonwealth as soon as possible. The actions of our government should not be determined by the game-playing talents and skills of interest groups and political parties. Such efforts undermine democracy and breed further cynicism and negativity toward government.

It frustrates me that I live in Monroe Co where we have twice as many registered Democrats as Republicans but not one Democratic Rep or Senator from our county in Harrisburg. Gerrymandering disenfranchises us. It is grossly undemocratic. Glad Rep David Parker and Sen. Lisa Boscola support independent commission to decide districts in 2020.
