PA Fish and Boat Commission Acts to Protect Wild Trout Streams

From Conservation Voters of PA (http://www.conservationpa.org):

You took action and we won! In December we asked you to speak up for threatened wild trout populations in our state’s streams, and your voice was heard.

The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission voted to protect 132 of our state’s cleanest waterways that are home to wild trout populations. This means streams in all corners of the state—from Lackwanna to McKean to Fayette to Lancaster counties—will be protected from development and industry that could threaten the water.

This is a huge win for our state. As you know, Pennsylvania has more polluted waterways than any other state—and that number is on track to go up. With natural gas production increasing, our rivers, lakes, and streams are under even greater threat of contamination. Protecting Pennsylvania’s healthy streams is good for the economy and public health. We have a thriving outdoor tourism industry that depends on clean water and active fish populations, but if too many streams get contaminated and the trout die off, local businesses will suffer.

Thank you for helping achieve this win—your comment made a difference. I look forward to working with you in the future to ensure the protection of our waterways and natural resources.
