Liberation for Haitian Families At Last! Now Let’s Free All Families!

You did it! Community pressure worked! After two months of community groundswell we are thrilled to announce that the two Haitian families at the Berks County Detention Center, who had been imprisoned since before the pandemic started, are no longer facing deportation! One family was released and is now with loved ones, we are thrilled for them and their beautiful two-year old. The second Haitian family has gotten a stay of removal, therefore is not facing immediate deportation, and we can’t wait for their release.
But, in the last few weeks nineteen new people have been brought to the family prison. ICE continues to operate it’s deportation machine despite the transition, despite an even more contagious strain of COVID sweeping across the world. That is why President Biden must act swiftly and end family detention nationwide now.

Take 1 minute to tell the new administration, end family detention in the first 100 days.

  1. Sign and share our petition to Biden at https://actionnetwork.org/petitions/biden-end-immigrant-family-detention-separation-end-all-immigrant-detention-deportations.
  2. Tweet at @JoeBiden @KamalaHarris @AliMayorkas

Sample tweetNow is the time to End Immigrant Family Detention, shut down the prisons in the first 100 days. Incarcerating families is always cruel, is always abusive and is always illegal. Especially during a pandemic #EndFamilyDetention #ShutDownBerks

We are excited to see President Biden already at work to roll back Trump era policies of cruelty, push for a pathway for citizenship for 11 million undocumented people and enact a 100 day moratorium on deportations. But no where in that immigration agenda is ending family detention. Incarcerating families is always cruel, is always abusive and is always illegal. But together, we can make sure that family detention is ended once and for all in the first 100 days of this administration. Let’s #ShutDownBerks #ShutDownDilley and #ShutDownKarnes
