Consider Yourself As a Write-In for Judge of Elections

From We the People PA: (https://actionnetwork.org/groups/we-the-people-pennsylvania):

This is URGENT: People (YOU!) need to run for Judge of Elections (to work the polls) in a write-in campaign on November 2nd!

On November 2nd, two positions will be on the ballot: Judge of Elections and Inspector, and in many places, no one will be on the ballot!

But wait, there’s more — there is an effort by supporters of the Big Lie to get people eager for the power to overturn elections to run write-in campaigns for these positions.

That’s right — the Right wing wants to take over the supervision of elections. Terrifying.

Here is the short version of what is involved. We’ll supply more information below — but it is simple:

Twice a year, people are needed to manage polling places. It means being available once for the spring primary and once for the general election on the first Tuesday in November.

It comes with a stipend (amount varies by county), but don’t do it for the money — do it because democracy needs you!

There is training and plenty of information to help you prepare to run the polls, you can learn more after you win.

To run, you need to be over 18 and a registered voter — and you can’t be a government employee (even a school district).

All you need to do is WRITE YOUR NAME on the write-in line of the ballot and ask a few friends and neighbors to do the same thing. You can write your name in for both Judge and Inspector — or ask someone to join you!

That’s it — it’s easy! You can do something to serve your community and help protect our democracy with just two days of your time a year. We’re going to put more information below. We urgently need people to jump in and take a stand to make sure that people who value voting, who support the democratic process, and who don’t want our nation to be taken over by racists and insurrectionists hold the line for our values — and our elections.

Poll workers are the backbone of democracy, and in Pennsylvania, three of the five poll worker positions are elected: the Judge of Elections (JoE) and both the Majority Inspector and the Minority Inspector. The other two positions, the Clerk and the Machine Inspector, are appointed by the county.

The essential responsibilities are about making sure the polling place runs smoothly and legally — procedures are followed so that voters can cast their ballots without intimidation.
