World Day Against the Death Penalty—Hear the Stories

From Witness to Innocence (https://www.witnesstoinnocence.org/):

Witness to Innocence members — exonerated survivors of death row — are fighting to restore justice to our broken system: abolish the death penalty, prevent wrongful convictions, and secure fair compensation for those who were wrongfully sentenced to death.

On the 16th annual World Day Against the Death Penalty, we join our voices with those of organizations across the globe to call for an end to the inhumane and unjust death penalty. This year, we are focused on bringing awareness to the horrific living conditions of those on death row, which dehumanize them and take away their dignity.

So far, 107 countries have abolished the death penalty. But 23 countries — including the U.S. — carried out executions in 2017. And in the U.S., 163 people have proven their innocence and been released from death row in the past 42 years.

Innocent and exonerated death row survivors and their families have shared with us their stories of the experience living on death row. Hear their stories at https://www.witnesstoinnocence.org/single-post/2018/10/10/World-Day-Against-the-Death-Penalty.
