From PennEnvironment (http://www.pennenvironment.org):
We know it’s long past time to transition off of fossil fuels. That’s why communities around Pennsylvania and the country are taking power into their own hands, and working to fight climate change by tapping into clean, renewable energy.
But pro-fossil fuel legislators want to make sure we continue our addiction to these dirty energy sources. Right now, state Senator Gene Yaw is pushing a bill in Harrisburg that would prevent local communities from fully electrifying our homes and businesses for a cleaner, healthier future.
We can’t let this bill pass. Call on your state Senator to vote NO on SB275 at https://pennenvironment.webaction.org/p/dia/action4/common/public/?action_KEY=44347.
To make matters worse, it isn’t just a Pennsylvania problem — bills like SB275 are popping up in states across the country. In the past year alone, similar legislation has been passed in Arizona, Arkansas, Louisiana, Kentucky, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Utah. And similar preemption bills have been introduced in Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Texas, West Virginia, and Wyoming.
This effort is part of a coordinated attack by the fracking and fossil fuel industry to keep us addicted to dirty oil and gas, so they can continue to profit at the expense of our planet.
We have clean alternatives that are good for our planet and crucial in the fight against climate change — healthy electric homes are gaining momentum as technologies continue to improve. Efficient all-electric construction is often less expensive, less polluting, and safer compared to burning fossil fuels in our buildings. Our state officials in Harrisburg should encourage, not eradicate, local control to deliver these benefits for our communities and families.
Right now, we should be doing everything we can to transition off of dirty energy sources that pollute our air and water and threaten the future of our planet — not passing legislation that puts up more roadblocks to clean energy progress.
