From PennFuture (http://www.pennfuture.org):
The Choose Clean Water Coalition and the Coalition for the Delaware River Watershed are excited to announce the first ever PA Clean Water Week with 2 separate, but somewhat related components: Legislative Video Conference Meetings and a new and exciting Virtual Week of Action. This will be a fun way to stay engaged and active during this time, and will feature a series of watershed celebration action events you can share with your membership.
- Legislative Video Conference Meetings
In place of the typical in-person meetings that are held on Clean Water Education Day, we will be hosting some video conference meetings with Legislative Offices over the course of the week. Our asks will be simple this spring. We are asking for the state agencies and basin commissions to receive the same level of funding as they did last year.
All other asks and priorities that the Coalition has been working on will not go away. They are just on pause, so we can be in alignment with the reality of what the Legislature and public are experiencing. For a good article on this year’s budget process, read this blog post from Dave Hess.
We moved the date up, because it is expected that the Legislature will pass an early, bare bones budget based on last year’s numbers, so they can continue to remain safe at home and practice physical distancing guidelines. The expectation is they will pass the budget before the numbers come out on the first Friday of May, and likely won’t return to Harrisburg until September.
In addition to the digital “leave behind” materials that we will provide the Legislative offices, we will also have a sign on letter open all week corresponding to our budget asks of funding the state agencies and basin commissions.
If you are interested in participating in the Legislative Video Conference Meetings during the week of April 13th, please register here. More details to come.
We will host an informative webinar to help prepare you for the Legislative Meetings. Please mark your calendars for Thursday, 4/9 at 1:00 for the informational webinar. Details to follow. This will be recorded if you are unavailable at this time.
- Virtual Week of Action
This will be a digital celebration of clean water and our watersheds full of social media kits, digital actions you and your members can take, and it will culminate with a virtual celebration webinar on Friday, 4/17 at 1:00 p.m.
