From Faith in Public Life (http://www.faithinpubliclife.org):
A core commitment of our Faithful Agenda for the first 100 days of the Biden Administration is to affirm Black lives and lay the groundwork for ending systemic racism. Our faith demands that we repent for our nation’s legacy of white supremacy and act boldly for racial justice.
Join us in this work today by urging your Congressional Representative to cosponsor H.R. 40, which establishes the Commission to Study and Develop Reparation Proposals for African-Americans, at http://fpl.actionkit.com/letter/reparations-cosponsor.
This legislation initiates a thorough investigation of reparation proposals, so that we can finally begin the process of repenting for the grave sin of slavery and remedying the immense harm done by centuries of oppression.
The insurrection on January 6th was just the latest display of white supremacist violence in our nation. H.R. 40 will allow Members of Congress to investigate ways to substantively repair and redress the damage done by slavery and the vast discrimination that has continued ever since.
As people of faith, we know that Black lives matter to God. That means we must work to bring equity and tear down white supremacy. This is an opportunity to do both.
This legislation was just introduced in the House of Representatives earlier this week. A burst of support from people of faith right now will show every Member of Congress that we believe now is the time to act to end white supremacy.
Thank you for your witness and commitment to a more just future for all.
