Urge Trump to Protect Our Public Lands

From Creation Justice Ministries (http://www.creationjustice.org/):

Urge President Trump to uphold our nation’s cultural, spiritual, and natural heritage in our public lands.  Act Now at http://action.creationjustice.org/p/dia/action4/common/public/?action_KEY=23373.

In the spring, President Trump asked Department of Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke to “review” all public lands that have been given national monument protections since 1996. The purpose of the review was to consider shrinking or eliminating special places previously conserved under the Antiquities Act of 1906 for being of national historic or scientific interest.

Over the summer, the Creation Justice community mobilized to collect public comments to deliver to the Department of Interior. Our comments were among nearly three million in support of conserving the heritage our national monuments hold. Now, the decision is in the hands of the White House, and we need your help again.

On August 24, Secretary Zinke submitted a secret set of recommendations to the White House. Weeks later, his secret recommendations were leaked to the press, and the public learned of ten national monuments Secretary Zinke has recommended to be diminished. They include: Bears Ears in Utah, Cascade-Siskiyou in Oregon and California, Gold Butte in Nevada, Grand Staircase-Escalante in Utah, Katahdin Woods and Waters in Maine, Northeast Canyons and Seamounts in the Atlantic Ocean, Organ Mountains Desert Peaks in New Mexico, Pacific Remote Islands near Hawaii, Rio Grande Del Norte in New Mexico, and Rose Atoll in Pacific Ocean near American Samoa.

Act Now!

If Secretary Zinke’s recommendations move forward, it would be the biggest loss of conservation protections in U.S. history. This could mean mining, oil and gas drilling, logging, commercial fishing, and grazing could take place in previously protected areas. It also could mean desecration of sacred sites, loss of wildlife habitat, destruction of delicate watersheds, and lost public access to wild places for prayer, recreation, and education.

President Trump has not yet made any public statement about what he will do with Secretary Zinke’s recommendations. There is still time to make a difference. Please forward this email to friends and family, and share the message on Facebook and Twitter.
