If you can’t prevent a gun suicide before it happens, it almost always ends in death. But, family members whose loved one is in crisis lack a critical tool to remove the firearm while the individual gets help.
That’s why Reps. Todd Stephens and Jenn O’Mara have introduced Extreme Risk Protection Orders legislation (HB 1903). It will allow family members and law enforcement to petition a court to temporarily remove the firearm. And it’s been shown in other states to cut suicides by 15%-20%.
