Urge House Judiciary Committee to Say NO to Restrictive Refugee Resettlement Bill

posted in: Immigration, Uncategorized | 0

From the Interfaith Immigration Coalition (http://www.interfaithimmigration.org):

Right now, the U.S. House Judiciary Committee is considering legislation that would deny protection to refugees, decimate the U.S. refugee resettlement program, and inflict harm on individuals fleeing persecution. The “Refugee Program Integrity Restoration Act” (HR 2826) would drastically reduce refugee admissions, place refugees under continual surveillance after they have arrived, and delay family reunification and integration by tripling the amount of time refugees have to wait until they receive green cards. This type of discriminatory legislation does not match our values as Americans or as people of faith.

Take action TODAY at http://www.interfaithimmigration.org/2017/06/26/opposehr2826/ to make your voice heard and help us ensure that our country’s legacy protecting refugees can continue.

Now is the time to call Members of the House Judiciary Committee and tell them to vote NO on the “Refugee Program Integrity Restoration Act.” To defeat this legislation, it will take all of us working together.

CALL TODAY—go to http://www.interfaithimmigration.org/2017/06/26/opposehr2826/: Tell House Judiciary Committee Members to Vote NO on H.R.2826. The direct phone lines of committee members are listed below. NOTE: PA Representative Tom Marino is on the committee.

Here’s an example of what to say: “I support refugee resettlement and believe in protecting individuals fleeing persecution. I urge the Representative to REJECT H.R.2826, the “Refugee Program Integrity Restoration Act,” which is being considered by the House Judiciary Committee. H.R.2826 would drastically reduce refugee admissions, place refugees under surveillance, allow state and local governments to veto resettlement, and deny life-saving protection to refugees fleeing for their lives. This bill runs counter to the leadership of the United States and the welcome of the American people. Please vote NO on H.R. 2826.”
