The Delaware River Basin Commission STILL hasn’t given us the full fracking ban they promised us more than a year ago. They are still considering regulations that would allow fracking wastewater to be imported and clean water to be exported for use in fracking up others’ communities.
The industry needs two things to stay alive – water, and lots of it, for fracking and places to dump their waste once they’ve polluted all of that water. For those of us in the Basin, it means a clean water out/dirty water in cycle that poses threats to our water supply. For our friends in the communities that have been hard hit by fracking for years, it means more of the same. And for everyone else, it means more greenhouse gas emissions being pumped into an atmosphere that doesn’t care where they came from.
It’s a lose-lose-lose situation that affects everyone, everywhere.
It’s time for the DRBC to say NO to the fossil fuel industry and reject the proposed regulations.
Berks Gas Truth works in the group called the Delaware River Frack Ban Coalition that got the important first victory of a ban on fracking last year after fighting for more than a decade to get it. They’ve continued fighting for a FULL ban ever since. The group is gathering names on a sign on letter that includes the signatures of organizations and individuals. The text of our petition is the same as that of the letter, so signing our petition means you’ll be adding your name to the letter.
