URGENT: Your voice is needed before Christmas. In the midst of massive tax cuts for corporations and the wealthy, Congress could leave the Children’s Health Insurance Program in critical condition. Contact your members of Congress today and tell them to renew this bi-partisan law immediately!
On September 30, 2017, the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) expired when Congress failed to renew this essential program for children in the wealthiest nation on the planet.
As the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate vote to pass tax cuts for corporations and wealthy individuals, in many states, funding for CHIP is running out. States are beginning to limit coverage to basic, quality health insurance coverage, putting some nine million children across our country at risk. Congress must act now to ensure coverage for our poorest and most vulnerable children.
CHIP was created twenty years ago when both Democrats and Republicans worked together to address the urgent lack of health care access for children of low-income families. As a result, the percentage of children without access to health insurance dropped from 14 percent in 1997 to 4.5 percent in 2015. CHIP provides the most basic of services, including immunizations, visits to the doctor when sick and regular check-ups.
Your voice matters. Please contact your representative and senators and urge them to renew CHIP as soon as possible.
Thank you for your leadership and support on this critical issue for our nation’s children.
