Urge Congress to Extend Council on Ending Homelessness

From the People’s Emergency Center (http://www.pec-cares.org):

We have made progress with ending homelessness, let’s not stop now. One key effort that helped is the leadership of the United States Interagency Council on Homelessness (USICH) and its “Opening Doors” strategy. Opening Doors is the first ever national plan to end homelessness, which helped guide the federal agencies to improve coordination. However, Congress needs to continue USICH, which is scheduled to ‘sunset’ by 2017. Without USICH, federal coordination of plans to end homelessness of veterans, families, and youth lose the organizational structure necessary to link national and state strategies.

We are supporting the effort to urge Congress to extend the sunset date from 2017 to 2020.

Please email or call your House Representative and Senators Casey and Toomey to encourage them to extend USICH using these talking points. Find contact information here.

Please call and/or email by August 12th.
