Urge the Administration to Protect Somali TPS Holders

From the Interfaith Immigration Coalition (http://www.interfaithimmigration.org):

Join us in urging the administration to protect our Somali neighbors. The deadline for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to decide whether to extend and re-designate Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Somalia is July 19th. Now is the time to tell our elected leaders to do everything in their power to ensure we do not turn our backs on the Somali TPS holders we pledged to protect.

Here are the top 2 ways to take action:

  1. Call Congress: Call (202) 224-3121 three times to connect with your 1 Representative and 2 Senators. Alternatively, call directly–find contact information:

Sample Script: “My name is [NAME] and as a constituent [and person of faith], I am calling to urge your boss to protect Somali Temporary Protected Status holders, who are at risk of being returned to the ongoing war and humanitarian crisis in Somalia. Somalia is a place where people face risk of violence at the hands of al-Shabaab and other groups, starvation, and disease. I ask that your boss call or write a letter to the Department of Homeland Security in support of an 18-month extension and re-designation of TPS for Somalia prior to the July 19, 2018 decision deadline. I also urge your boss to support a permanent legislative solution to protect Somali TPS holders and their families.”

  1. Post on Social Media: Spread the word on social media by sharing the tweets below (see PA Twitter Handles below).
  • TPS exists to save lives by protecting people from being returned to life-threatening situations. Ending TPS for Somalia would risk lives and tear families apart. Tell @DHSgov, extend and redesignate #SomaliaTPS! #SaveTPS
  • The @StateDept’s January 2018 travel advisory states “do not travel to Somalia due to crime, terrorism, and piracy.” We cannot send hundreds of people back into life-threatening situations. Extend and redesignate #SomaliaTPS! #SaveTPS
  • .@DHSgov, @StateDept, we cannot in good conscience send hundreds of Somalis back to an ongoing conflict zone and one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises. Extend and redesignate #SomaliaTPS. #SaveTPS

Thank you for taking action, and please share this alert with your networks!
