From the Environmental Defense Fund (https://www.edf.org/):
On Monday, Representatives Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-08) and Carlos Curbelo (FL-26) introduced the MARKET CHOICE Act – an innovative proposal to fund American infrastructure and cut carbon pollution. This bill marks a return to bipartisan engagement on climate solutions.
Here is what the bill does:
- By putting a price on carbon pollution, it harnesses the power of economic incentives to let businesses choose for themselves how best to cut pollution.
- It establishes clear and measurable pollution reduction goals along with transparent mechanisms to measure progress and stay on course for meeting those goals.
- Funds roads, transportation, helping families deal with natural disasters like flooding, helping workers, and boosting clean energy.
Thank Rep. Fitzpatrick for supporting climate action and introducing the MARKET CHOICE Act at https://secure.everyaction.com/x5tqnNr1CE-DMAH9ORknBA2.
We have a long way to go before this bill becomes law, but it lays the groundwork for a return to bipartisan climate leadership. Because community leaders like you made phone calls to Congress last week, six Republicans stood up and said no to the anti-climate Scalise resolution, including Rep. Fitzpatrick. Today’s announcement continues that progress.
Rep. Fitzpatrick understands that climate change is not a partisan issue, and is taking on a much needed leadership role within Congress. He needs to hear from you! Send an email to Rep. Fitzpatrick thanking him for co-sponsoring this legislation and taking a lead on climate change.
America has the ability and responsibility to lead on clean energy innovation. That means a comprehensive approach to take as much carbon out of the atmosphere as we put into it by the middle of this century. Although this bill alone doesn’t address and solve all of the dangers of climate change, it does contain important features that will help advance the policy debate.
Make sure Rep. Fitzpatrick knows that you stand with him in the fight for a cleaner America.
