Tell the Senate to Reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act and Protect Domestic Violence Survivors

From Every Town for Gun Safety (https://everytown.org/):

It’s been nearly a year since the House reauthorized the Violence Against Women Act to protect survivors, and the Senate still hasn’t done anything about it.

Reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act.

Right now, it’s far too easy for domestic abusers to access guns, and that has deadly consequences. In fact, we know that the presence of a gun in a domestic violence situation makes it five times more likely that a woman will be killed. But we also know that common-sense laws that keep guns out of the hands of domestic abusers reduce gun violence and save lives.

That’s why at Everytown For Gun Safety, we will never stop fighting to ensure lawmakers pass laws that protect domestic violence survivors from gun violence across the country. Let us know that you’re committed to this battle: Urge the Senate to reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act.

Last year, when the Violence Against Women Act was reauthorized in the House, it included policies that would prohibit convicted stalkers and people who have abused their dating partners from buying or owning firearms. The Senate is sitting on this bill that would go a long way to strengthen our gun safety laws.

Domestic violence and gun violence are intimately connected – a deadly combination exacerbated by America’s weak gun laws, and we need all Senators, on both sides of the aisle, to support this bill.

The gun lobby loudly opposes common sense changes that would reduce violence against women and families, but these laws just make sense.

Here’s where you come in:
Now is the time for us to urge lawmakers to do what’s right: Sign the petition from Everytown for Gun Safety to tell your Senators to do their jobs and reauthorize the life-saving Violence Against Women Act.
