Tell Your Representative: Time to Vote on the DREAM Act Now

From OneAmerica Votes (http://www.oavotes.org/):

On September 5, the President ended the DACA program putting into jeopardy the future of nearly 800,000 undocumented immigrant youth who grew up in the United States and know no other home. OneAmerica helped spark a furious response from immigrants and their supporters starting with organizing press conferences and rallies across Washington hours after the announcement, turning public support and momentum against the President’s cruel action.

Since Tuesday, we’ve been flooded with calls asking “What can I do?”

Contact your Representative and demand a vote on the DREAM Act! And consider making a call as well—find contact information for your Representative at http://www.house.gov.

Some Members of Congress put into a motion a tool called a discharge petition that would allow a vote on the DREAM Act over the objections of the Republican House Leadership, who appear intent on exacting their own pound of flesh in exchange for protecting undocumented youth from deportation. If a simple majority of Representatives – 218 – signs the petition, leverage shifts to supporters of the DREAM Act, and the House will be forced to vote on the bill.

Call on your Representative to force a vote on the DREAM Act now!

The DREAM Act would create a path to citizenship for eligible undocumented immigrant youth living in the United States.  In Washington State, all of our Democratic Representatives have committed to voting YES on the DREAM Act.  All four of our Republican Representatives have said they want Congress to act to protect undocumented youth.  This is their chance to do more than talk about it. The futures and lives of nearly 18,000 Washingtonians and their families are at stake.
