From the Trust for Public Land (https://www.tpl.org/):
We want you to alert you to a deceptive proposal in the U.S. Senate, and ask for your help to protect public lands.
Utah’s Senator Mike Lee introduced S.31, a bill that legitimizes the former administration’s action to eliminate the largest protections for public land in U.S. history. This bill, deceptively named the Protect Utah’s Rural Economy Act, prohibits any President from establishing or extending national monuments in Utah without an act from both Congress and the State Legislature.
If enacted, S.31 will stop the Biden administration from restoring Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monuments. It will also undermine the Antiquities Act — one of our nation’s most effective conservation laws.
We cannot let this happen. Please send an urgent message to our Senators to oppose S.31 and stand with Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante today at https://bit.ly/3x8MKwo.
This fight has been long, but we’re not giving up. We will make sure to keep you updated, but in the meantime, please take a moment to tell our Senators that they should oppose this destructive bill.
