Sign Petition Calling for Expansion of Offshore Wind

From Environment America (https://environmentamerica.org/):

The untapped power in the wind off our coasts is so abundant, it could meet all our nation’s energy needs and then some.

While the U.S. has the capacity to produce almost two times the electricity we currently consume with offshore wind, federal permitting for these projects is lengthy and subject to delays.1 We are calling on the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) to remove barriers to offshore wind that will promote renewable energy growth.

Please add your voice to our petition at https://environmentamerica.webaction.org/p/dia/action4/common/public/?action_KEY=45060 calling on BOEM to go big on offshore wind.

We see an energy future that turns away from polluting fossil fuels and is 100 percent renewable. Offshore wind is a big part of that plan. There are currently 5,500 offshore wind turbines deployed worldwide, generating enough electricity to power 7.3 million homes.2 Although 29 states have the potential to generate offshore wind energy, there are only two offshore wind projects in the United States.3

We can’t let wind power get bogged down in needless red tape. Encourage BOEM to prioritize offshore wind that will expand the development of this abundant yet underutilized resource.

The road to 100 percent renewable energy is paved by solar, wind and geothermal technologies, and offshore wind is another invaluable tool that can get us there.

The wind off our coasts is key to a country that runs on clean, renewable sources.

Join us in going big on offshore wind.
