Tell Our Senators to Pass COVID Supplemental Relief Now

From the Coalition on Human Needs (http://www.chn.org):

Nearly two months ago, the White House requested $22.5 billion in additional COVID funding to continue to combat this deadly disease. Congress is yet to act.

This will result in uninsured individuals being unable to access COVID vaccines, testing and treatment. It means the federal government will be unable to purchase future booster shots. And, it means that state supplies of treatments will be cut.

Go to https://actionnetwork.org/letters/write-to-your-senators-stop-holding-covid-relief-hostage to send a message to your U.S. Senators to immediately pass additional emergency COVID spending so we can stay ahead of new variants and ensure our communities and our health care system are not overwhelmed by a new COVID surge.

Three sticking points in the U.S. Senate are foreign COVID aid―to help vaccinate people in low-wealth countries around the world―the need to reimburse health care providers for vaccines, testing and treatment for the uninsured, and opposition to the Biden administration’s plans to end the use of Title 42, which has been used to deny entry into the U.S. to refugees and asylum seekers.

Throughout the world, we’re seeing new variants popping up and rising cases in Europe and beyond. For both humanitarian and self-serving reasons, the billions of dollars for global vaccine distribution must not be delayed.

Write to your U.S. Senators now and demand they pass COVID supplemental relief, including foreign COVID aid and help for the uninsured here.

Two years ago, under the Trump administration, the Department of Homeland Security began blocking and expelling thousands of refugees at our southern border under a little-known policy, Title 42. This allowed the Department of Homeland Security to block and deport immigrants coming to the U.S. from countries where Covid-19 was present.

Today, more than one year into the Biden administration, senior scientists at the Centers for Disease Control as well as leading epidemiologists and medical experts are objecting to its use.

The Biden administration has responded, announcing that it will end the use of Title 42 in the coming weeks. However, a number of senators―Democrat and Republican alike―are holding COVID supplemental relief hostage, demanding the Biden administration continue to use Title 42 to block and expel refugees.

Write to your U.S. Senators now and demand they stop holding COVID supplemental relief hostage.

The deaths and long-term illness caused by the pandemic are tragic. Now that prevention and treatment are available to save many lives, it is unthinkable that Congress would delay or deny life-saving funding.

Thank you for demanding Congress act now, before it’s too late.
