Tell PA Legislators to Increase Growing Greener Funding in 2020

From PennEnvironment (http://www.pennenvironment.org):

Pennsylvania’s greatest conservation program just celebrated its 20th anniversary.1

It’s called “The Environmental Stewardship Fund,” and is known to most of us as “Growing Greener.” For the past two decades, it’s helped to preserve some of Pennsylvania’s most iconic and threatened places.

But despite its importance, Growing Greener faces budget shortfalls by the legislature every budget season. Call on your legislators to increase funding for Growing Greener in 2020 at https://pennenvironment.webaction.org/p/dia/action4/common/public/?action_KEY=35873.

The successes of Growing Greener are truly incredible and its legacy has touched all corners of Pennsylvania. Over the past 20 years, it has provided funding for trails along the Wissahickon; Philadelphia’s Smith Playground; Pittsburgh’s North Shore Riverfront Park, Schenley Park, and the Phipps Conservancy; the greenways in the Delaware Water Gap, and so much more. Overall, Growing Greener has:

Preserved over 80,000 acres of natural areas and more than 78,000 acres of threatened family farmlands.

Improved more than 320 community parks and completed more than 250 projects to improve and maintain our state parks and forests.

Completed over 1,500 projects to reduce water pollution and address flooding.2

Growing Greener has helped protect the places we love for twenty years. Now it’s time we help protect Growing Greener. Tell your legislators to vote for increased funding for Growing Greener in 2020.

But even with all of these successes, the program routinely is not given the funding it needs. And the list of projects and places that are in dire need of protection under the Growing Greener program continues to surpass the program’s funding and resources.

It’s time for our legislators to stand up for the program that protects the Pennsylvania places we love. Ask your elected officials to join us in celebrating Growing Greener’s 20th anniversary by increasing funding for this program in 2020.

Then, forward this to friends and family who enjoy Pennsylvania’s great outdoor places as much as you and me.

What better gift to celebrate Growing Greener‘s 20th birthday than working to improve it!
