Tell Our State Officials to Sign On to the National Popular Vote Compact

From Common Cause (http://www.commoncause.org):

There’s something seriously wrong with our presidential elections.

In two of the past five of them, the candidate with fewer votes became president — most recently Donald Trump. And in every presidential race, candidates are forced to focus their attention on a handful of swing states and ignore the vast majority of voters nationwide.

The time has come to fix the broken Electoral College. And there’s a solution spreading like wildfire: National Popular Vote.

Every American deserves a meaningful say in our presidential elections — no matter what state they live in. Tell state lawmakers to sign onto the National Popular Vote Compact at https://actionnetwork.org/petitions/national-popular-vote-lets-fix-the-electoral-college.

Here’s how it works: if enough states require their electors to vote for the winner of the nationwide popular vote (rather than the state popular vote), it would fix the problems of the Electoral College without needing to amend the Constitution.

The compact won’t take effect until enough states have joined in — but just this year, Colorado, New Mexico, Oregon, and Delaware signed on, bringing us to 15 states (plus D.C.) and 196 of the needed 270 Electoral College votes.

National Popular Vote is gaining momentum — and we’re ramping up our efforts to get even more states on board. Urge state lawmakers to join the National Popular Vote Compact now!

As more and more Americans focus on next year’s presidential election, we must seize this MAJOR opportunity to expand National Popular Vote to more states — and inch closer and closer to the 270-vote mark we need for victory.
