Tell Our PA Legislators to Oppose Attack on PA Rivers and Streams

From PennEnvironment (http://www.pennenvironment.org):

Pennsylvania is blessed with beautiful streams that crisscross our communities and are an incredible part of the Keystone State’s great outdoors. But these beloved natural waterways may be at risk.

Legislation moving through the Pennsylvania General Assembly would weaken protections for our rivers and streams, and leave it up to polluters to decide whether a pollution spill into our waterways and groundwater should be reported to environmental officials or not.1

Call on our state legislators to oppose this attack on our rivers and streams today at https://pennenvironment.webaction.org/p/dia/action4/common/public/?action_KEY=46791.

This legislation is SB545 in the state Senate, and HB1842 in the state House. Besides handing reporting decisions over to the polluters themselves, it also does not make it clear the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection can order the polluter to clean up a spill or fix the cause of the spill.2 Talk about letting the fox guard the henhouse.

It’s crucial that your state legislators know that their constituents want them to vote against this polluter paradise proposal. So make your voice heard today.

Senate Bill 545 and House Bill 1842 benefit no one but the frackers, pharmaceutical companies and other polluters who don’t want to take responsibility for their destruction of our environment. Passing this legislation will undoubtedly destroy the decades of work it’s taken to protect and restore Pennsylvania’s great rivers and streams.

Let your state senator and representative know that you expect them to oppose these attacks on our rivers and streams.

Our rivers and streams are a crucial part of what makes Pennsylvania great. Help us defend them today.
