Tell PA Legislators to Enact Real Election Reform Policies that Enhance Security, Boost Integrity

With the fall legislative session under way, both the House and Senate have plans to advance their own election reform proposals, with hearings this week and initial votes as early as next week.

That could have serious implications on how the next elections are run and how Pennsylvanians access their polling places and cast their ballots if transformative election policies aren’t on the table.

If lawmakers truly want to enhance election security and boost integrity of the process, then they need to refocus their energy and enact real reforms that make voting more convenient, more secure, and accessible to all, especially for communities of color.

Among the measures lawmakers must enact:

  • Authorize same-day voter registration, eliminating the state’s current arbitrary deadline and making it possible for residents to register when they’re most engaged.
  • Allow early in-person voting to relieve congestion at polling locations and give voters with challenging work schedules or family situations the chance to choose the time that works best for them.
  • Provide more resources for county election operations so they can increase poll worker pay and implement electronic poll books that use real-time data to enhance security.

These are the policies that lawmakers should be working on — and that all of us as voters and voting rights advocates are demanding should be their priority.

TAKE ACTION TODAY.

Go to http://www.legis.state.pa.us/cfdocs/legis/home/findyourlegislator/index.cfm#address to find your local state representative and senator and tell them it’s time to get back to the table and get to work on real election reform in Pennsylvania. The clock is ticking.

It’s time for decisive action that protects our freedoms and guarantees the rights of every resident to have their voice heard and their vote counted.

Nothing is more fundamental to the way our government operates than demonstrating to the public that their votes are being captured and counted as intended, that the outcomes are correct, and that our elections are safe and secure.
