From the Sierra Club (https://www.sierraclub.org/):
The recent grand jury investigation included descriptions of the air as “Nauseating,” and of a “black sludge in the toilet,” and went on to say, “Many of those living in close proximity to a well pad began to become chronically, and inexplicably, sick. Pets died; farm animals that lived outside started miscarrying, or giving birth to deformed offspring. But the worst was the children, who were most susceptible to the effects.”
The attorney general’s report clearly outlined eight solutions to hold the fracking industry accountable — but they are the bare minimum steps we need to take to protect Pennsylvanians from the dangers of fracking.
We need Gov. Wolf to work with the state legislature to implement these eight recommendations. We must urge him to do more to hold the fracking industry accountable instead of giving millions in taxpayer dollars to the petrochemical industry during a pandemic.
Send a message to Gov. Wolf now at https://act.sierraclub.org/actions/National?actionId=AR0276795 and tell him to suspend all new gas permits until strong protections are implemented to protect the health and safety of Pennsylvanians from the dangers of fracking.
The horrifying consequences of fracking go far beyond public health. Gas extraction contributes a large amount of climate-polluting methane and carbon dioxide, worsening the climate crisis when clean energy is readily available.
The favoritism for corporate profit and polluters over our communities, essential workers, farmers, and climate must end. The attorney general’s report outlines some steps we can take to protect our future, but the first action our legislature and Governor took in response was to promote more fracking.
