From the Climate Reality Project (https://www.climaterealityproject.org/):
Right now, Big Oil is eyeing the Ohio River Valley as a site for massive investments in new facilities and ethane cracker plants.
But we know the climate and health impacts associated with petrochemical complexes and the fossil fuel industry are numerous.
Take action now at https://www.climaterealityproject.org/putpeopleoverpetro. Add your voice to the growing number of citizens who want our governor to fight for a clean and healthy environment.
Building more ethane crackers and other natural gas facilities will add harmful pollutants and powerful greenhouse gases like methane to the atmosphere and accelerate climate change.
With temperatures rising and scientists telling us we need to slash fossil fuel emissions by 2030 to avoid catastrophic climate change, Pennsylvania needs to break away from fossil fuels and invest in renewable energy.
What’s more: Shell Appalachia Chemicals’ ethane cracker under construction in Monaca, Pennsylvania, is expected to emit up to 484 tons per year of volatile organic compounds, contributing to dangerous ground-level ozone. Building these plants will undermine the gains we have made in reducing harmful emissions and air pollutants in the region.
Take action today by signing a letter to Governor Wolf. We’re asking him to actively oppose the petrochemical buildout in our region and make new commitments to invest in a healthy future for our communities. Once you’ve signed, share the link with all of your networks — let’s make this happen!

Forecasts about the negative impact of climate affected by greenhouse gases concern me. PA has taken bountiful wealth from underground – oil, iron ore, coal and natural gas. It is time to stop the flow and to restrict any new fossil fuel infrastructure. This massive change in our economy and culture requires political will. It is possible. We need your leadership. Most importantly, do not build new processing plants. Fracking must also be stopped because it threatens our health by harming water and soil resources. The need requires extreme vision and action.
