In a relentless campaign to dismantle our environmental protections, the Administration’s EPA is now trying to lock in their disregard for science in future environmental rule-making.

Protecting everyone from COVID-19 should be the first priority, but the administration is using this crisis as an excuse to push forward with a dangerous secret science proposal that will hamstring EPA from using the best available data when crafting public health and environmental protections. Click here to sign our petition opposing EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler’s misguided plan.

Despite the Coronavirus crisis, the EPA announced that it was suspending enforcement of vital environmental and public health safeguards. Part of the reason we are behind the curve in the Coronavirus pandemic is our country’s failure to listen earlier to the scientific warnings from health experts within our own government. And now the EPA is proposing locking in this disregard for science with a truly dangerous proposal to stop the agency from using the best available science in rulemaking.

The very pollution that is causing climate change is making people more susceptible to COVID-19.  We have seen that it is people of color and lower income people who are most vulnerable, and are dying of this virus at higher rates. It is more clear than ever that protecting our environment is tantamount to protecting our people. This is a moral issue that people of faith must speak out on. Science and faith are not at odds: science is a tool to help us protect our health and our world. But we can’t use it if it is muzzled.

There is a 30-day window for public comment. Let’s make sure the Administration is flooded with opposition to this immoral proposal to sideline science in environmental rulemaking. Please make your voice heard today.
