Tell Congress to Protect Health Care Workers During COVID-19 Crisis

Nurses and health care professionals are on the front lines of our battle against COVID-19. Their tireless work has brought comfort and healing to our communities, and saved countless lives.

Unfortunately, they are working in dangerous, unacceptable conditions. Many have been infected or quarantined due to exposure to coronavirus largely because many health care facilities are inadequately prepared to safely protect health care workers.

To protect the health and safety of health care workers, Reps. Bobby Scott (VA-03) and Donna Shalala (FL-27) introduced the COVID-19 Health Care Worker Protection Act of 2020 (H.R. 6139).

The bill requires the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to issue an Emergency Temporary Standard within 30 days that sets requirements for how workplaces must safeguard health care workers against the spread of coronavirus.

At a moment when nurses and other health care workers are working around the clock to protect our communities, we must be able to protect them as well. If they aren’t safe, then the U.S. healthcare system is at risk.
