Tell Congress—Medicare for All Is Good for Seniors

From Social Security Works (http://www.socialsecurityworks.org/):

Medicare for All is good for seniors. But that’s not what critics will tell you.

Donald Trump claims “Medicare for All is really Medicare for none.” As usual, he’s lying.

Medicare for All will help seniors by expanding coverage to include dental, hearing, vision and long-term care. And it will eliminate co-pays and premiums.

Today, in a national address, Sen. Bernie Sanders is standing up for seniors and all Americans―pushing back against misguided fear-mongering about what would happen when we move from our broken health care system to Medicare for All.

Put simply, Medicare for All is good for everyone. There is no reason to attempt to scare seniors into thinking anything otherwise.

Right now, for example, long-term care―at home or in a nursing home―is not covered by Medicare. And the cost of a semi-private room, food and housecleaning in a nursing home averages $225 a day, or $82,125 each year.

Under the current long-term care system, many seniors have no choice but to impoverish themselves until they can qualify for Medicaid. That would all change under a Medicare for All system. Health care would include at-home services, as well as nursing home care. And that’s not all! Improved Medicare for All would include vision, hearing and dental coverage―and eliminate all premiums, co-pays and deductibles.

Not only must we fight back against misinformation being spread by predictable opponents of Medicare for All, we now must correct the record by some longtime Democrats like Joe Biden, who has proposed to merely tweak the current system instead of fighting for Medicare for All.

We can make Medicare for All a reality, but only when millions of us stand together and push back against the misinformation. With our voices together, we can ensure ALL of the Democrats running for President are united in support of Medicare for All.

Nancy Altman, the president of Social Security Works, recently wrote in Forbes, “In addition to trying to scare seniors, the fearmongers seek to convince all of us that adding important services to Medicare and expanding the program to cover everyone is unaffordable. Nothing could be further from the truth. What is unaffordable is what we have now. Even conservative analyses show that Medicare for All will reduce what seniors and the rest of us pay currently.

ADD YOUR NAME: We need to enact Medicare for All!

“The fearmongers tell working families that they will lose the insurance that they have. The reality is that those younger people who have those fears should, along with seniors, be the strongest supporters of Medicare for All,” Nancy concludes in her Forbes piece. “Today, one’s health insurance is lost when employment ends or when one’s employer simply decides to change policies or provide no insurance at all. If you want to make sure you won’t lose your health insurance, you should be pushing hard for Medicare for All.

Together, we are uniting the voices of our national movement to expand Social Security, enact Medicare for All, and lower prescription drug prices. Together we can win!
