Tell Congress: Do the Responsible Thing—Increase Debt Limit, Don’t Shut Down Government

From the Coalition on Human Needs (http://www.chn.org):

Congress and the President need to do their jobs by the end of September, to prevent a government shutdown or default, stabilize health insurance, and provide funds to help with the recovery from Hurricane Harvey.

Don’t push us into disaster by trying to force dangerously unacceptable service cuts – just do the responsible thing!

Go to http://org.salsalabs.com/o/125/p/dia/action4/common/public/?action_KEY=22312 to send your Rep and Senators an email.

Congress has a lot to do this month. At minimum, they need to pass at least a temporary spending bill so the government doesn’t shut down at the end of September. They also need to increase the limit on federal borrowing, to continue health insurance subsidies that reduce increases in insurance rates, to reauthorize the Children’s Health Insurance Program, and to make an urgently needed down payment on disaster relief for Harvey victims. (Yes, they need to act to protect the young Dreamers too – see our separate emails about that.)

Before Harvey, President Trump was threatening to veto spending bills if he didn’t get his border wall funding, making a government shutdown all but inevitable. Now he’s backed off forcing a shutdown in September, but we don’t know what far right members of Congress will do. We need an outpouring of constituents telling Congress to do what’s right – please click and send the emails, and forward this so others do too.
