Tell Congress to Extend and Expand Vital Clean Energy Incentives

Critical federal clean energy programs are set to expire — right when we need them most.

We can’t let years like 2019 become the new normal: another heat record-breaking summer, another fall of extreme storms, and wildfires raging throughout the year.¹ We’re seeing the climate-altering effects of burning fossil fuels. It’s also polluting our air and our water.²

It’s never been clearer that we need to shift to abundant, clean and renewable energy as fast as possible. But key incentive programs designed to promote clean power and energy efficiency will expire in a few weeks if Congress doesn’t act.

Tax incentives speed the growth of renewable energy by making it easier for people and businesses to adopt and invest in clean alternatives to the fossil fuels that have led us to the brink of climate catastrophe. They’re more important now than ever before.

But the investment tax credit (ITC), a major clean energy incentive that provides a 30 percent savings on new solar installations, will begin to phase out at the end of the year if Congress doesn’t extend it.³ Other key incentive programs designed to promote energy efficient buildings are either expired or outdated.

In the face of the climate crisis, there’s no place for half measures. We’re calling on Congress to incentivize clean energy by:

• Extending the solar and wind tax credits.
• Expanding the ITC to include wind energy, battery storage and other clean technologies.
• Updating tax credits for electric vehicles.
• Extending and updating tax incentives that help commercial and residential buildings save energy.

Tell Congress to go big on clean energy by supporting incentives for energy efficiency, renewable energy, energy storage and electric cars.

There’s no time left for inaction. To ensure a livable future on our planet, it’s time to take clean energy to the next level.
