Break the Cycle of Incarceration & Poverty: Tell Congress to End the Ban on Food Aid for Returning Citizens

From the National Council of Churches (http://www.ncccusa.org):

Currently, people released from prison after serving their sentences for drug felonies are banned for life from receiving food assistance. Known as Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), these programs provide essential assistance to millions struggling with poverty. Without this essential assistance, people coming out of prison are more likely to commit another crime and end up back in prison. This especially affects BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) communities.

Legislation to reverse this injustice has been introduced in the House and will be introduced in the Senate this week. The MEAL Act would repeal the lifetime ban on food assistance for people returning from prison after serving the sentences for drug felonies.
