Tell Congress the Next Round of COVID-19 Funding Must Protect Working People and Families

From the Coalition on Human Needs (http://www.chn.org):

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused tremendous damage. In addition to the lives lost, over 30 million people have lost their jobs. People and families across the country are struggling to make ends meet, facing hardships that were unimaginable just months ago.

But instead of focusing on how to help those most in need, the administration has proposed undermining Social Security’s dedicated funding and Lindsay Graham has pledged to block essential support for families struggling to pay their rent―just weeks after Congress bailed out corporations and wealthy business owners.

We need to make it clear to the administration and its allies that we are not going to let them use the pandemic as an excuse to pad the pockets of the wealthiest people in this country at the expense of working and low-income families who are seeing any savings they may have had evaporate before their eyes.

As Congress prepares to introduce and debate the next round of COVID-19 legislation, CARES Act 2, we must demand that they prioritize the needs of working people and families, not the rich and corporations.

Demand Congress provide direct support to low-income people and families throughout our country! Send a letter to your members of Congress at https://actionnetwork.org/letters/tell-congress-demand-they-provide-direct-support-to-people-and-families-not-the-rich-and-corporations. Tell them to focus on the needs of people, not the needs of big business.

Let’s demand Congress support families and vulnerable people throughout our country. That means additional direct payments. That means extending jobless benefits and increasing SNAP food assistance. That means boosting payments through the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and the Child Tax Credit (CTC), which provide direct support to low-income working families and individuals.

The EITC, CTC and SNAP have historically held bipartisan support. Helping workers and families through cash and SNAP benefits gets money into the economy most effectively. Let’s demand Congress boost funding to people and families. Enough partisan politics. Let’s solve problems for the American people!

Together, let’s tell Congress to pass legislation that includes direct support to people and families. Tell Congress to provide additional direct payments, extend jobless benefits and increase SNAP, boost the EITC, and increase the Child Tax Credit for people and families.

Thank you for being part of our movement to lift up low-income and vulnerable people throughout our country. Let’s make sure our voices are heard throughout Congress.
