From Moms Rising (https://www.momsrising.org/):

We’re meeting Senator Casey in Pittsburgh on Tuesday, and hoping you can share a personal message about the urgent need for Congress to keep fighting for caregiving, early learning, and paid leave!

Pressed for time? No worries! The message can be as short–or as long–as you’d like. We’re hand delivering these to Senator Casey so this is a great opportunity to send your message and concerns straight to the people in office.

Please take a moment to share a quick message now at https://action.momsrising.org/sign/care_cant_wait_PA.

It’s amazing news that the very-important Inflation Reduction Act passed the U.S. Senate and is going to pass the House next week. The Inflation Reduction Act will make significant, long-overdue progress to reduce the cost of health coverage and prescription drugs, make our tax code more fair by finally making wealthy corporations pay their fair share, lower energy costs, and help address the climate emergency. We especially applaud the provisions that will make health plans purchased through the Affordable Care Act (ACA) marketplace more affordable, preventing more than 3 million people from losing their coverage and becoming uninsured next year; rein in Big Pharma’s price gouging; and cap the cost of prescription drugs for seniors.

This is a big deal and it’s worth celebrating!

And… as any mom, parent, and caregiver knows: we still, urgently, need robust support for childcare and paid family and medical leave. And we can’t let up on the gas.

Your signature and comment are urgently needed! We’ll deliver them next Tuesday. Please take a moment to share via this link.

We’re so thankful for Senator Casey’s continued support for working people and families. And let’s give him, and the rest of our Pennsylvania delegation, the support they need to keep the fight going.

Thousands of moms, dads, parents, leaders, and caregivers across the nation, just like you, are sharing their care stories with our elected leaders to urge them to build the care infrastructure our nation’s families, businesses and economy need to thrive.

Please add your name to a new message we’re delivering next week, now.

P.S. While we all live these issues first-hand, here are some stark facts about the status of women in Pennsylvania in case you still need some convincing:

  • 75.5% of women with children under 6 years are working.[i]
  • 67.1% of PA mothers are the breadwinners or co-breadwinners for their families.[ii]
  • In PA, child care workers’ median wage is only about 54% of the Pennsylvania state median.
  • 17.6% of Pennsylvania child care providers live below the poverty line, compared to 9.2% of all workers and 1.3% of K-8 teachers.[iii]
  • An average Pennsylvania child care worker would spend 92.1% of their income to put two of their own children in center-based care.[iv]
