Tell Your PA Legislators to Support a Whole Home Repairs Fund to Support Safe & Healthy Homes

From PennFuture (http://www.pennfuture.org):

Energy conservation programs too often turn away opportunities to improve the energy efficiency, comfort and affordability of homes across the Commonwealth.

Faulty roofs, outdated wiring, or the discovery of mold are among the issues that can often stop a weatherization project in its tracks. If the homeowner lacks funds to pay for basic repairs themselves, limited outside funding is available to cover these substantial costs. No state program exists to coordinate potential funding sources.

The consequence is missed chances to achieve low-cost reductions in climate-warming carbon emissions. For Pennsylvanians buried in debt, the cost of repairs can lead many owners to lose their homes.

SB1135 will create a Whole Home Repairs Fund, administered by the Department of Community and Economic Development, that would maximize existing local, state, and federal funding sources to help keep people safe and healthy in their homes.

Passage of the Whole-Homes Repairs Act would:

Allow funding of home repairs and weatherization services so our neighbors can reduce their energy expenses, lower their carbon footprint, and afford to stay safely in their homes.

Create a one-stop shop to make it simple for people to access the help they need.

Invest in the creation of local jobs, while making sure our neighbors have the training they need to obtain these family-sustaining jobs.
