Tell Congress: Support Those Seeking Refuge and Asylum

posted in: Immigration, Uncategorized | 0

From Church World Service (http://www.churchworldservice.org):

A caravan of people fleeing violence in Central America has begun a long journey to the United States to seek protection. These families are fleeing violence, desperation, and persecution and are traveling together for safety on their dangerous journey. This is exemplified in the story of Rosalin Guillermo, a mother from Guatemala who has undertaken the difficult journey with her three children.

Rather than uphold our legal and moral responsibility to protect those seeking refuge, the administration has threatened to close our doors on them. As we affirm the right of all people to seek asylum and protection, it is critical that we tell the administration and Congress to allow asylum seekers and vulnerable families to seek protection, prevent family separation and incarceration, and reduce deportations and border militarization.

Here are sample posts:

  • .@[Senator/Representative] Everyone has the legal right to seek protection from persecution. As a caravan of asylum seekers arrives, urge @DHS & @CBP to process & welcome asylum seekers, not incarcerate, separate, or close our doors.
  • People over politics! Everyone has the right to seek protection from violence and persecution. #EndFamilySeparation #EndFamilyIncarceration
  • Politicians should be upholding our laws, not manipulating Americans. Congress needs to make sure @DHSgov and @CBP agents understand asylum protections are the law of the land!
  • Central American families — people like you and me — are fleeing violence and persecution. This is a humanitarian crisis, NOT a political football.
  • Americans say no to Family Separation 2.0! @realDonaldTrump is manipulating the public about the caravan of asylum seekers so he can indefinitely detain immigrant children and families. #EndFamilyIncarceration
  • WaPo reports Trump administration considering new family separation policy. Meanwhile administration is shutting its door on families seeking protection. We should welcome asylum seekers, not deport them. #FamiliesBelongTogether https://t.co/wKZe7aB4nF
