Tell Your Representative to Support Reviving the Iran Anti-Nuclear Agreement

From Peace Action (http://www.peace-action.org/):

The Senate recently voted on two non-binding measures that unfortunately showed soft support for efforts to revive the Iran anti-nuclear agreement (the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, or JCPOA) by the Biden Administration and European allies.

The JCPOA, which was the Obama-Biden Administration’s top foreign policy achievement, was foolishly abrogated by Trump just over four years ago. Recent talks with Iran to revive the deal have progressed impressively, but are currently stalled over the issue of US sanctions on an elite Iranian military unit, a “poison pill” established by Trump to make it harder for the US to rejoin the deal. Diplomats on all sides are working to overcome this obstacle, but time may be running short.

Please contact your member of the House of Representatives today at https://secure.everyaction.com/9LzlWX_LPk-0DyUi0sGUqg2. Let them know the JCPOA needs their support as the best way to prevent potential nuclear proliferation, and threats of war to prevent Iran’s possibly developing nuclear weapons (it has none now, but has advanced its uranium enrichment closer to the nuclear weapon threshold).

For extra credit, you can also contact your Senators to let them hear your thanks, or disappointment, for their vote on the harmful Lankford Motion to Instruct conference committee members on the United States Innovation and Competition Act of 2021. You can see how your Senators voted at the link above, and then call their offices. The Senate switchboard is at 202.224.3121, or find their direct office number or email address on their websites.

The decision on an agreement to restore the JCPOA could come very soon, so your voice in favor of diplomacy, non-proliferation, and lowering rather than raising tensions in Southwest Asia is critically important, and timely. The war in Ukraine with its tragic violence and the threat of nuclear escalation has proven that we must seize the opportunity for peace and diplomacy when we have the chance. The last thing the world needs is another regional arms race or war.
