From the Interfaith Immigration Coalition (http://www.interfaithimmigration.org):
We are at a critical moment in the fight for citizenship.
The Build Back Better Act—which promises historical investments in climate change, childcare, education, and immigration—currently hangs in the balance.
Our elected leaders have the power to provide a pathway to citizenship for immigrants and their families in Build Back Better.
A simple update to the registry date, from 1972 to 2010, would make green cards accessible to millions of immigrants who live, work, and worship in our communities—and who call this country their home.
This is an all-hands-on-deck moment and your voice is needed!
Together, we can urge the White House and Senate to not give up on this transformative piece of legislation and to honor their promise to provide a pathway to citizenship.
Take Action
- Email your Senators at https://cwsglobal.org/action-alerts/take-action-urge-your-senators-to-support-a-pathway-to-citizenship/: Please note that you will only be able to contact Senate Democrats because Senate Republicans are not involved in these negotiations.
- Sign the Petition at https://www.wearehome.us/signpetition: Call on President Biden and Congressional Democrats to deliver permanent protections for immigrants and put an end to the fear of deportations and family separation.
- Watch and Share Immigrant’s Stories: Use the resources in this IIC toolkit to amplify the stories of Beatriz (a farmworker), Tamar (a TPS holder), Maria (an essential worker), and Giovana (a DACA recipient) and how citizenship would change their lives.
- Starting today! Participate in the Build Back Better Week of Action (1/31-2/11)* coordinated by a few IIC partners and other directly-impacted groups.
- Monday, 2/7: share these posts on social media to amplify the call from people of faith for citizenship.
- Make phone calls to elected officials on Tuesdays or Thursdays during these weeks of action.
