Support New Energy Efficiency Standards for Appliances in PA

From PennEnvironment (http://www.pennenvironment.org):

The cleanest form of energy is……the energy you don’t need to create in the first place. That’s why energy efficiency will play such a crucial role in our efforts to tackle climate change and reduce air pollution.

The good news is that a bipartisan set of legislators are set to introduce new legislation that would set energy efficiency standards for nearly two dozen appliances sold in Pennsylvania.1

Ask your state representative to add his/her name as a cosponsor of this legislation today at https://pennenvironment.webaction.org/p/dia/action4/common/public/?action_KEY=33365&supporter_KEY=5057359.

While energy efficiency standards may not be that glamorous, some refer to them as the “workhorses” of our efforts to reduce pollution: they quietly plod along pulling a heavy load of energy and utility bill savings for the state and the country.

And the legislation being drafted by State Representatives Jennifer O’Mara (Delaware County) and Wendi Thomas (Bucks County) is expected to significantly reduce pollution by 2025, including:

  • Cutting carbon dioxide emissions by over 500,000 tons–the equivalent of taking over 110,000 cars off the road;2
  • Slashing emissions of nitrogen oxide (NOx)–the smog-forming pollutant that exacerbates asthma and other respiratory ailments–by 270 tons;3
  • Reducing fine particulate emissions of sulfur dioxide (SO2)–a pollutant that reduces lung function and exacerbates respiratory ailments–by more than 350 tons.4

Ask your state representative to help Pennsylvania achieve these pollution reductions by calling on them to cosponsor Reps. O’Mara and Thomas’s legislation.

Promoting energy conservation isn’t just good for our environment, it’s also good for our wallets. The appliance energy efficiency standards proposed in this legislation are expected to save residents and businesses over $200 million annually on their energy bills.

So help promote our cleanest form of energy: the energy we don’t need to produce in the first place, by asking your state legislator to add their name to this commonsense legislation today.

Then forward it to friends and family and ask them to do the same.
