Tell Congress to Support Housing and the Housing First Model

From Church World Service (http://www.churchworldservice.org):

The homelessness crisis demands urgent action. National, state, and local policies can – together – correct long-standing racial inequities and economic injustices by ensuring quality housing. Our elected leaders must invest in proven solutions at the scale necessary to address the problem — and ensure they are doing everything in their power to support access to safe, stable, and affordable housing for all.

The “Housing First” model is the most effective, evidence-based approach for ending homelessness for most individuals and families. Under the Housing First model, stable, affordable, and accessible housing is provided to people experiencing homelessness quickly and without prerequisites, and voluntary supportive services are offered to help improve housing stability and well-being. It is a flexible model that can be adapted to address the unique needs in local communities and tailored to the challenges facing individuals. Housing First recognizes that stable housing is required for effective psychiatric and substance use treatment and for improved quality of life. Once stably housed, individuals are better able to take advantage of wrap-around services to help support housing stability, employment, and overall health.

Now is an important time to make your voice heard and tell your Members of Congress to proactively support Housing First as a model toward ending homelessness.
