FEMA Support Available for Families Who Lost a Loved One to COVID

We hope you and your family are staying well as we work to battle the Omicron surge. All Pennsylvanians ages five and over are eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine and everyone 12 and over is eligible for the booster shot. Vaccines and boosters are the safest and most effective way to prevent serious illness. Tragically, more than 841,000 Americans have died as a result of this pandemic, including many people in our community. If you or someone you know lost a loved one to COVID-19, support is available.

Under the American Rescue Plan, FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) is still accepting applications to help pay for funerals of people who died from COVID-19. FEMA will pay up to $9,000 in costs per funeral, or up to $35,000 per application, to cover funeral costs including caskets, urns, burial plots, cremation and more.

To apply for COVID-19 related funeral assistance or to learn more, visit FEMA’s website or call the COVID-19 Funeral Assistance Helpline 844-684-6333.

Pennsylvania has recorded 37,899 deaths due to COVID-19. That’s thousands of members of our community who experienced unimaginable grief on top of the already difficult pandemic. In response, we passed the American Rescue Plan, which President Biden signed into law last year, to provide everyone a safe and accessible vaccine, support our small businesses, safely reopen schools, and also to relieve financial burdens for the most impacted families in our community.

Approximately 90% of hospitalizations in Pennsylvania due to COVID-19 are among unvaccinated patients. Those who remain unvaccinated have an extremely increased risk of serious illness, hospitalization and death due to COVID-19.
