Stop Fuel Efficiency Standards Rollback

From PennFuture (http://www.pennfuture.org):

The administration is launching an attack on common sense environmental standards, rolling back important protections around vehicle emissions that keep our air clean and save us money at the gas pump.

The Environmental Protection Agency and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recently announced what they call the “Safer Affordable Fuel Efficient (SAFE) Vehicles Proposed Rule for Model Years 2021 – 2026.” This new regulation would freeze federal fuel economy standards at 2020 levels and prevent states from opting for higher standards to fight tailpipe pollution. This rollback would lead to higher tailpipe emissions, including more CO2—increasing carbon pollution at a time when we must immediately fight climate change with better policies.

In addition to the cost of this rollback to public health, this regulation, if enacted, would stifle innovation and cost us money we would have saved on gas from improved fuel efficiency. According to Energy Innovation Policy & Technology, LLC, the proposed SAFE Vehicles Rule will likely cost the U.S. $450 billion through 2050.

Tell the EPA you won’t stand by as it puts corporate interests ahead of American families. Go to https://pennfuture.salsalabs.org/sendepa_cleancarscomments/index.html to contact the EPA to demand cleaner car standards.

SPEAK OUT IN PITTSBURGH: The EPA and NHTSA have announced a hearing about this proposed fuel efficiency standards rollback in Pittsburgh on Wednesday, Sept. 26. Please contact PennFuture Southwest Outreach Coordinator Alex Cupo at cupo@pennfuture.org if you are interested in attending and speaking at the hearing.
