Tell Congress to Stop Clear-Cut Logging in the Tongass National Forest in Alaska

From the Alaska Wilderness League (http://www.alaskawild.org):

Ever feel like this Congress and the Trump administration is trying to set our country back a few decades? Well, their latest attack on the Tongass National Forest does just that.

In late November, the Senate Appropriations Committee rolled out a bill to fund our government that aims to re-open industrial scale, old-growth clear-cut logging in the Tongass National Forest. This is a step backwards for fish and wildlife in southeast Alaska, and for the people who rely on the forest for their jobs, traditions, and cultures.

Tell Congress: Reject these clear-cut riders and protect the Tongass National Forest. Act now at http://p2a.co/1rRJakD.

For far too long, money-losing timber sales in southeast Alaska have destroyed our public forests – home to wolves, bears and strong salmon runs that we all appreciate – while leaving us to foot the bill for roads and infrastructure related to logging.

If logging proponents get their way and this bill passes, ‘roadless area’ protections would no longer apply to Alaska. A forest plan that intends to phase out destructive old-growth clear-cutting would also be nullified, forcing tax payers to continue subsidizing destruction on some of our best public lands.

If you want to sustain our Tongass National Forest for future generations, please click here to send a note to Congress today.

We’ll keep you in the loop in the weeks ahead… more soon!

Stop this cheat cutting of old growth trees. Protect the few thousand acres of trees still standing if not for us for the generations of families to follow. People who live there take care of the land why can’t we respect their land.
