Tell PA Legislators to Stop the Attack on Entry to the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative

From PennEnvironment (http://www.pennenvironment.org):

Every day, it seems like the need to address the climate crisis becomes more urgent. And we all know that politicians’ efforts to implement climate solutions have lagged behind the public’s resolve to tackle climate change.

That’s why it’s outrageous that a bipartisan group of legislators in Harrisburg are pushing a proposal to strip Pennsylvania’s environmental officials of their authority to tackle climate pollution from dirty fossil fuel power plants.

Ask your state representative and senator to oppose this disastrous attack on climate solutions before it’s too late at https://pennenvironment.webaction.org/p/dia/action4/common/public/?action_KEY=44303.

After years of inaction by the state legislature, Gov. Wolf announced his intention to have Pennsylvania join one of the nation’s most successful programs for reducing climate pollution, the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI). This proposal was met with widespread public support — citizens submitted supportive comments by the thousands, spoke up at public meetings, and applauded the effort in their local newspapers.

But fossil fuel companies and their allies in the Pennsylvania legislature are pulling out all the stops to keep Pennsylvania from joining this program and reducing our carbon footprint.

Tell your state legislators to oppose this irresponsible attack today.

These efforts to halt climate solutions have been introduced by two legislators from Western Pennsylvania’s Indiana County: House Bill 637 introduced by State Rep. James Struzzi and Senate Bill 119 introduced by State Senator Joe Pittman. This week, the state Senate is set to start moving its rollback of climate solutions, so time is of the essence.

We need our politicians to fight climate change — not continue the status quo and kick the can down the road.

That’s why it’s critical for your state representative and senator to understand that Pennsylvanians like you and me oppose this attack — and that their constituents expect them to take action to reduce climate pollution. Send a message to them today.

Joining RGGI is just the first step in Pennsylvania’s fight against climate change. But we can’t let global warming polluters and their political allies in Harrisburg stand in the way of climate progress.

Thank you for standing up for our climate.
