We Did It Together! Berks is Shutting Down!

After 8 years of community organizing, the Federal government has announced the closure of the immigrant prison in Berks County. This is a victory for the Berks community and Pennsylvania. This was the result of a collaborative effort between many individuals including people who have suffered the violence of detention at the Berks Detention Center. It has been a long journey of organizing since 2015 to get here. We are beyond thrilled to hear this news and look forward to seeing everyone released to their families and communities. We will also remain vigilant that this site will never again be used to inflict more violence against immigrants or incarcerate more people as it transitions to a new purpose. Organizing Works!

The Shut Down Berks Coalition just received word that the Biden Administration will be ending the ICE Contract with Berks County as of January 31, 2023. Now We Fight For Every Woman to Be Released and Free.

We want to thank and honor the many people who were incarcerated at Berks and organized and fought for their freedom and the freedom for all communities. Without them, this campaign, and this win, would not be possible. We did it!
