From Faith in Public Life (http://www.faithinpubliclife.org):
This isn’t the America we want to see. Over the weekend, a group of people seeking asylum were tear gassed by American Customs and Border Protection at a border crossing in Tijuana. The group of people assaulted included families and kids.
Our faith compels us to stand with these kids and their families. This cruel act calls for us to speak out and demand a different response for those seeking safety.
Asylum rights are human rights. Rejecting people seeking asylum is a violation of national and international law and contrary to our values. Violence, corruption and poverty have driven people from their homes and exiled them to seek refuge elsewhere. We must be proactive in preparing to welcome and accompany.
Take action right now and sign the pledge to join in solidarity with people seeking asylum at http://fpl.actionkit.com/sign/pledge-solidarity-asylees. People from many faith traditions are signing the #CaravanPledge to demonstrate their commitment to be good neighbors to those seeking refuge and to build a community where all are welcome. We will be in touch with concrete ways to make a difference.
All families and children fleeing for their lives deserve a fair chance for security. As a nation we have a moral responsibility to help our neighbors seeking safety, not attack them.
